Inside the museum
We learned that during the Civil War, there was a confederate army camp in Seven Springs (then called Whitehall). The CSS Neuse was built there and then attempted to float down the river to Kinston. It ran aground on a sandbar in the Neuse River almost immediately. In December of 1862, Union and Confederate forces fought in and around Seven Springs.
