Field Trip to the Cliffs of the Neuse

On Monday, the kids and I went to the Cliffs of the Neuse with my parents and sister. We toured the new museum and then did some hiking and exploring. It started off really cold but warmed up to be a beautiful day.

We learned that during the Civil War, there was a confederate army camp in Seven Springs (then called Whitehall). The CSS Neuse was built there and then attempted to float down the river to Kinston. It ran aground on a sandbar in the Neuse River almost immediately. In December of 1862, Union and Confederate forces fought in and around Seven Springs.
