Part 1 of Day 2--Philadelphia!

We went to Philadelphia on Monday.  I took so many pictures that I'm making this a 2-part post.  Part 1 of day 2 will be the historic district.  We toured Independence Hall (or the Pennsylvania State House as Thomas Jefferson would have called it).

The Assembly Room--13 tables representing 13 colonies; this is where they debated over the Declaration.

The actual chair George Washington sat in.

Congress Hall--the U.S. Constitution was put to the test here!  Thomas Jefferson worked on the second floor of this building (these are the original stairs).

The Second Bank of the United States--inside is the largest collection of original 18th century American portraits in the world.  (We didn't get to go inside of this building because it was closed).

The "butt" tree

Betsy Ross' house

Miller in front of Benjamin Franklin's grave

Inside Benjamin Franklin's printing office--we were able to see how he would have done his printing.

This is the room where they bound books.

Mailing postcards from the oldest post office in America.

Getting sworn in as Jr. Rangers.  National Parks have a Jr. Ranger program where the kids complete a certain number of activities in the ranger book and receive a Jr. Ranger pin and patch.  This was so fun (and educational!).

The Liberty Bell--Benjamin Franklin would have called this bell the State House Bell.  This bell use to be outside until 9/11.  It is now located inside the The Liberty Bell Center.
