Park Fun and Science!

We experienced a few really gorgeous, cooler days this week so we took advantage of it and spent a morning at the park with some of our friends.

There was a fierce game of tag.

This week in science we have been learning about the digestive/renal system.  Today, we learned about the liver and pancreas...and BILE!  That is such a gross word!  But we did a cool experiment that showed us how bile works.  Our ingredients:  oil, water, and dish detergent.

The first thing we did was pour some oil (representing fat) into the water (representing chyme, a thick liquid that food becomes 3 to 4 hours after eating).  The oil formed large globs in the water.  When we added the dish detergent (representing bile) and stirred, the oil became tiny drops instead of large globs.  So we learned that bile helps break down fats!  Fats don't mix well with water, so in a watery substance like chyme, they form large clumps.  Bile breaks those clumps into smaller clumps that are easier to digest.  So now you know more than you ever cared to know about BILE!!!  Our body is an amazing thing!  How can anyone deny that our body is the result of careful forethought and design!
