My Mission Trip Experience Guest Post by Miller
I went on my first mission trip in July, to Louisville, Kentucky. It was through X-Fuge. We arrived at Southern Seminary after a day and a half of driving. The first thing we did was get a group picture taken and then we headed to the auditorium for orientation. Then we were taken on a tour of the campus. The final stop on our tour was the rec-room, where we played games until our leaders met up with us. After getting settled in our rooms, we ate dinner and went back to the auditorium for worship (as a large group) and then small group Bible study with our counselor. The next 3 days we did much of the same routine--breakfast, worship, and Bible time every morning. After our morning Bible study, we would be sent off to our work site.
On day 2 and 4 we worked at an orphanage where we set up tents for their annual picnic fundraiser (which is the second highest grossing event in Louisville, KY, next to the Kentucky Derby). On day 3 our mission site was a church in the projects where we did heavy yard work and some painting. On this day we had the chance to meet some people in the area.
After working, we headed back to the campus for some down time, dinner, worship, and Bible study.
On our last day, we ate a delicious breakfast and did our final worship and Bible time before the long drive back home. We spent the night that night in TN at our previous pastor's church. We stayed up most of the night playing basketball and other games in their youth center.
I found that this mission trip was a great chance for me to help people. It also allowed me the chance to grow closer to my friends in the youth group.
